Artist's Biography, April 2008

Boston-based Brian Dubina, born and raised in Massachusetts, studied art at Syracuse University
and graduated in 1994 with a B.F.A. in illustration. Since that time he has worked as a freelance
graphic designer, illustrator and fine artist as well as owned and operated the Canvas Alley Gallery.

Dubina is an award-winning artist who has exhibited extensively in Boston and has been noted as one of the
premiere painters of Fenway Park. Following years of popular shows and exhibitions (including a
two-year tenure on Newbury Street at New Art on Newbury), Dubina opened The Canvas Alley
Gallery in Reading, Massachusetts. While featuring paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelry
and hand crafted home décor from over fifty artists, Canvas Alley also incorporated into its
neighborhood community children’s art classes and workshops, charity functions and a design studio.

In 2005 Dubina’s work was featured in the Mayor’s Gallery at Boston City Hall in the city’s 375th
anniversary exhibition 375 Views of Boston and can be viewed in the upcoming independent feature
film On Broadway: The Movie. His work can permanently be seen in murals at the Savory Tastes Café in Reading, MA.

In addition to his fine art involvement, Dubina has engaged in graphic design work with the Boston
Red Sox, NESN, the New England Patriots, MTV and CBS, and his digital illustration has been seen in Newsweek magazine and USA Today. Because of his varied work experience and ability to apply traditional creativity to his design work, his portfolio reflects not only large corporate identity but also small business intimacy. As an illustrator, Dubina works in traditional pen & ink and has explored a variety of media including children’s books, editorial, sports and graphic novels.

In 2007 Dubina accepted a position in the award-winning retail division of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston as an assistant product and graphic designer. His responsibilities include designing for the exhibition, retail and online stores as well as new product development.

An avid explorer and storyteller, Brian draws much of his subject matter and creative impulse from his
enjoyment of the varied New England landscape and the drama of Boston’s historic architecture. When
he’s not at work, Brian enjoys snorkeling, reading, running, cooking, throwing Wiffleballs and vegetable gardening.
